The Maitland Smith bar cabinet did not come with its original shelf. Since I do not want to make permanent changes to the cabinet, I bought an old bookshelf for $12 to place inside. My brother cut the bottom of the bookshelf to fit. The frame cracked a little, but I can hide that using decorative moldings. I glued strips of felt to cover the edges of the bookshelf, so that the cabinet would not be damaged when I push it in. I like that I can adjust the shelf height, and glue wallpaper and battery lights directly to the shelf without damaging the cabinet.
